The great Costa Rica beaches gave the country its name. The name 'Costa Rica' literally means "rich coast."

Costa Rica beaches are known as some of the most beautiful in the world. The country's has has over 1100 miles (1800 km) of coastline. You can walk from beach to beach. Also, since the country is narrow, the two coastlines are only a few hours apart.

In addition to the stony and rocky beaches, there are sandy Costa Rica beaches that can have many colors of sand, including gray, white, bluish black, pink, and tan. They also come in different sizes, with the smaller ones providing the peacefulness of nature.

At any given Costa Rica beach, there are many water-related activities for tourists as well as locals to enjoy. These include scuba diving, fishing, surfing, yachting, kayaking, snorkeling, and swimming.

Many Costa Rica beaches are famous, including Esterillos, Manual Antonio Puntarenas, Jaco, Boca, Playa Conchal, Playa Tamarindo, Playa Hermosa, and Playa de Coco.

The best Costa Rica beaches can be found on the Guanacaste coastline. South of Guanacaste, you can find the most important ones, such as Montezuma. Montezuma has smaller hotels so that it can cater to more than the rich. It is close to the Cabo Blanco National Park.
